There are some people who can stay at the same, dead-end job for years without complaint. There are some people who can go from one job to the next without skipping a beat. Then, there are the rest of us who will reach a pivotal point in our human existence where the mundane will no longer suffice. Our Souls want us to find our place in the world where we can be the best version of ourselves. For this to happen, the Universe might shake some shit up through job loss, or hold out on us until that perfect next step is ready. Here’s some advice if you find yourself in this unfamiliar place. (I’ve used the Dreams of Gaia tarot for deeper insights). I’m at a crossroads with my career. I feel like I may lose my job within a year or so. I’m thinking that I need to start some sort of new career, but I just don’t know what direction to go in. Any insight would be appreciated!” ~Heather First, I wonder why you feel you might lose your job within the next year. I believe you. Many people are intuitive and empathic. If you are either or both, you might be picking up on the energies of others around you who might know something about your position’s inevitable demise or maybe you got an intuitive hit telling you that it might be time to start looking for something new. Either way… it’s probably time you start looking for something new. What to do? Ask yourself some questions: What lights you up inside? What can you see yourself doing for the rest of your human life? What can you see yourself doing, for free, because it’s just so soul-fulfilling? I pulled the Three of Fire while responding to your question - which literally shows a person “hitchhiking” or preparing for a journey. The Three of Fire lets you know “that now is a good time to explore and experiment on a practical level. Use your hands and mind to practice, hone, and refine your skills or abilities so that what you create and do will always be something crafted to the best of your abilities, and be a true reflection of your passion and dedication.” My advice to you is this - 1) Energetically cut your chords from your current job. This means give yourself permission to let your mind start looking towards the future, without feeling guilty. Be open to something new. 2) Go within - if you don’t already know what your heart desires to do as a career, try meditating or journaling around it. What are your passionate about? Only you can answer this question. 3) Take aligned steps towards your new desires and trust your intuition! Honestly, it’s that simple. And since you currently have a job, it takes the pressure off you so avoid the pitfalls of acting out of fear of “lack.” (That will only bring more evidence of lack.) Find your dream job, start that business, or sell everything and be of service in a third world country! Whatever you choose to do, remember to trust that the Universe has your back! Remember that the Universe wants us to show up as the best version of ourselves. And remember to trust yourself. “What’s the best way for me to land a job in my field (software development)?” ~Steve When it comes to any type of job that we want, we need to make sure that we really want it. I know that sounds silly but it’s true. From the time we are young, we are told to go to school, study something of interest then graduate and find a job in that field. But I don’t think that is always the case. Sometimes we have so many interests that we don’t know which field to settle down in, or the opposite - we have no strong interests and we need time to wander! So my first question is this - is this the field you truly want to work in? Does the work in this field light you up? If so, perfect! Then by the law of attraction, you will find a job in this field! But if it doesn’t, you will need to figure out what it is you really want to do. Your energy must match your desire in order to obtain it. Everything is made up of energy. Our thoughts are so much more powerful than we could ever imagine! Think of our thoughts as messages we send out into the Universe. The Universe hears them and works to actualize them. If you really want something (and it’s in alignment to your path), then it will actualize. Likewise, focusing on what you don’t want, will actualize more of what you don’t want, so be mindful of your thoughts! I love this definition of manifestation from Kathrin Zenkina over at ManifestionBabes.com. She says, “manifestation is the phenomenon that occurs when something that was originally part of your imagination becomes part of your physical reality.” First, visualize your perfect job, then find or create a job description the matches your vision. You know what you want! Then, take aligned action by sending out resumes to companies with such positions - include companies that might not have an open position listed. But, do all of this knowing that you already have the job. Claim it! Get your energy to match what it will feel like when the company calls you to say, “You’re hired!” Then, surrender! Open your mind to the different possibilities and opportunities that will present themselves to you. There are many different paths to the end result - many that you might not have even thought of yet! Your job is to trust that the Universe will support you with getting there. I pulled the Eight of Water when working on a response for you. The Eight of Water symbolizes how a positive state of appreciation and gratitude can influence our lives and environment for the better. It reminds us to take time to appreciate the people, the beauty and abundance already present in our lives.
It is easy to focus on what we don’t have especially when we want something, like a dream job. But by “choosing to focus on all that is good in your life, you will create a positive, emotional, two-way flow of energy that, like water, finds its way into every crack, where it washes away the cynicism, criticism, confusion, conflict, and anything else that might be weighing you down.” So my last piece of advice to you is this - practice gratitude! Appreciate the job you already have as a way to call in the job you truly desire. I wish you both the best of luck!

With social media, it is easy to become enamored with the stories of spiritual influencers who talk about their awakenings - how they discovered their gifts through some kind of trial and tribulation, and are now living soul fulfilling lifestyles that support their passions. Although this is beautiful and inspiring, I think that for some of us a little newer to our journeys, who may be struggling with how we are meant to share ourselves with the world, hearing these stories can have us imagining what our spiritual journey is supposed to look like based on other people’s experiences. We start “shoulding” on ourselves.
I used to think that by me constantly starting new projects but rarely following them through to completion, was just another way that I was failing, being lazy, or not amounting to "enough."
I used to think there was something wrong with me because I'd get so excited about an idea, a project, an opportunity, and get friends and family all worked up with me, get the ball rolling and just lose interest. As quickly as the idea came, it fizzled away. It was extremely frustrating and I couldn't understand it. Then one day, I read a blog post from Tina Forysth, a Business Leverage Expert, who asked in the title, "Are you a Starter, Finisher, or Maintainer?" I read on. She said that a Starter is the person who has that bright, game changing idea. That person who gets the team excited about a project, brainstorms, dreams, envisions, and gets the project going. While a Finisher is that person who likes to get shit done! They can take someone else's idea or project, expand on it, and get it completed... just in time to start something new! A Maintainer is that person who manages the moving parts and ensures stability with the project and the people involved. They make sure all the I's are dotted and T's crossed. They keep the vision going on that day-today level. I am not a Maintainer. Reading this not only made me realize where my gifts lay but how important it is to be able to look at life with a different perspective. Here I was thinking that something was wrong with me because I couldn't keep the energy of my ideas flowing. I often felt less than and a failure and even stifling my creativity as to not have another idea, yet again, be snuffed out by my lack of full commitment. But by looking at this circumstance through my strengths, I was better able understand areas of opportunity, like learning to accept a Maintainer's assistance to move my projects towards success. Do you see how simply changing the perspective on this has also changed my mindset and destroyed a limiting belief I had created within myself? That's how powerful perspective is! It's a simple mind shift that can have the most impactful results. Where in your life can you 180 your perspective to create a more favorable result? |
